Trunk shows are not a runway show or a fashion parade, their name comes from the idea of having the wedding dresses shipped in a suitcase (or trunk) throughout the country, visiting the best bridal dress stores.
Why should I go to a trunk show?
Because you will be able to access bridal gowns you wouldn’t normally be able to; as each boutique brings only a select capsule version of each collection and not the full collection from a specific designer. In other words, you will be able to see the latest bridal trends and to try on the latest collection models, months before they are available in bridal boutiques in New York and the rest of America.

What is a trunk show like?
Traditionally, bridal shops NYC will get one sample of a specific designer’s wedding gown. Sometimes they will bring anywhere from 5 to 8 of those designs so clients can try on that one gown. Then, when she chooses the dress of her dreams, the store will order her own gown in her own size.
In a trunk show, the designer will send samples of its entire collection to a salon, for a designated period of time (usually a weekend). This gives the brides-to-be an opportunity to try on a larger number of styles. Collections will include the newest styles, fresh from the runways and sometimes may also offer reception dresses and bridesmaids attires.

Aside from having a bigger display of bridal dresses, these events also differs from a standard salon visit because you will ask to book an appointment and try on your favorite gowns. The purchasing process remains the same, you will not leave the boutique with your bridal robe, as you will have to place an order of your chosen gown. This means you will be asked to make a decision at the time of your appointment; most wedding gowns are only available during the trunk show period and it might be the only opportunity you get to try these dresses on.
